H&K Hunting Blog

So after three days of school-trip touring around Madrid it was time (and the itinerary finally allowed) for some solo exploration. I was becoming worried that I hadn’t really appreciated the city, for the most part, because of the food. And come on, how can you get jamon wrong? Well trust me, it’s possible, three days worth possible. No matter which guide/blog/local’s knowledge/spontaneous turns I peddled I just couldn’t get into this city and I really really wanted to.

But a mends was soon made in the form of the Matadero Madrid a recently established contemporary art complex near the end of the Metro line complete with cinemas, cafes, performance spaces, galleries, ping pong tables you name it. It’s a converted slaughterhouse and when I heard this I expected to walk into one large warehouse conversion with art on the walls but no-sir-ree! It’s more like over a dozen different single-story warehouses of terracotta tuscan roof tiles and red brick walls (as well as a concrete-licious water tower).

The highlight was accidently walking into the offices pictured. Amazing right? and just as I finish a project on re-use of roof tiles. keh

Most of the re-do is the work of architect Arturo Franco. What a legend.

Also a great example of architecture and graphic design speaking kindly to one another, always exciting. hehe :)
